Long Trip Home
Mood:  don't ask
Topic: Dog Park Review
With the last concert still ringing in our ears, I left m sister at the Missoula Bus Depot, to catch a bus to Bozeman and a flight home to Denver.  Driving back over the pass on I-90, I took the dogs for one more morning run at the SCRAPS Dog Park at the State Line - Gateway Park.  It was terribly hot all the way back to Portland.  Early evening, I could see many humans and their dogs romping in the Sandy River at 1000Acres off-leash area, but we didn't stop.  It was nice to get home.

Salmon, Idaho's Dog Park
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Dog Park Review
We took the back roads north through Idaho, from the Boise area on to Missoula, Montana.  The final concert of the Cowboy Junkies' tour was there in the evening. On the way, we stopped off in Salmon for a good run at the Island Park off-leash area.   It's easy to find - following Main Street, which is US-93, the entrance is on the west side of the Salmon River.  Take an immediate turn to the south, across another small wooden bridge back to the island.  The off-leash area is fenced, but not secured with gates, on one side.  We met a man whose dog had been hit by a car in the parking area earlier that day - so caution is advised.  My sister also noted that her Leonbergers would probably swim off the island, unlike my Aussies.  No photos, sorry to say.  It's a nice park, with a big open area for dogs to run.

Stopping Off Again at State Line
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Dog Park Review

Great concert last night, and the Fox Theater in Spokane is wonderfully restored!  We stopped off for a romp at the SCRAPS Dog Park at the State Line - Gateway Park.  It's Exit 299 at N. Spokane Bridge Road.  I've reviewed this park before - it's an easy stop when travelling I-90.

No pictures - just a quick happy romp, prior to the long drive down to Eagle, ID, and another Cowboy Junkies concert at the Wood River Winery.

Seattle to Spokane Today
Mood:  bright
Topic: Dog Park Review

We continued to wander around Seattle a bit, with a few errands to run before we hit I-90 for Spokane. One of our errands included visiting a second dog park in Seattle - Woodland Park Off-Leash Area - not far from the zoo where we'd enjoyed last night's concert. It is located at the south end of Woodland Park, just left by the tennis courts off of West Green Lake Way.  The dog park is nestled into the trees, with a steep hill in the center.  Fridley and Clarabelle had a great romp.  They met a lovely Scottish Deerhound pup and a perfect Piedog named Reesie, and got properly tired out to settle down for the long drive to Spokane.

Prior to heading off to the Interstate, we did find a troll under the Aurora Avenue Bridge (conveniently to be found on Troll Street.

If It's Wednesday It Must Be Seattle
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Dog Park Review

Road trip time - with my sister Karen as copilot!  Today, we drove up to Seattle for a Cowboy Junkies concert at the Woodland Park Zoo.  After lunch, we went over to Golden Gardens Park Dog Park.  Drive west from I-5 on NW 85th Street, turn right on 32nd Ave.  This becomes Golden Gardens Dr. NW, and winds around.  The dog park is on the right, with a fair-sized parking lot.  There are lots of mature trees, a shelter, tables and benches.  It is on a hillside, so most of the park is sloped.  Fridley and Clarabelle had a pretty good romp, getting tired out before the concert, which they weren't invited to attend.

Back to Brush Prairie, Washington
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Dog Park Review

Went back to Brush Prairie, Washington, dog park three times this week.  It's becoming a favorite.  We've found that it isn't all that busy and some days - especially if the weather is drippy - no one else will be there.  Then Jester can run off-leash.  He's so reactive to dogs and people he doesn't know, that his Mom Jett doesn't dare take him to dog parks generally.

These photos are from a couple of days ago.  It rained before we got to the park, and it rained after we were done, but we had a great romp in between.

New dog in our pack is Rowan, Jester and Kiva have a sister.  She's learning to be a flyball dog, too

If you want to find this park, take the Padden Parkway exit from I-205 and head east.  Then turn left (north) on Washington 503 into Brush Prairie.  Then take a left on 149th.  The off-leash area is at the end of 149th on the left.

This park is run by Dog Paw.  For more information:

Wyoming Ro-Ro-Rowan Roadtrip
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Dog Park Review

My cousin Jett and her dog Kiva engineered a trip to Sheridan, Wyoming, where she adopted an Australian Shepherd from HeRD of Wyoming, a herding dog rescue group.   On our way east on I-90, we stopped for a romp at the SCRAPS dog park at Exit 299, on the Washington side of the State Line.  And then, coming back with the wild girl Rowan, we stopped at SCRAPS again before hitting the motel.  We did it again in the morning, to tire out all the dogs for the long drive back to Portland, which I made all the longer by insisting on driving Highway 14 down the Columbia River Gorge, rather than I-84.  On the way, we were rather surprised to find Stonehenge!

Back to Brentwood
Mood:  silly
Topic: Dog Park Review
Today, we were back at Brentwood Park, but there were many other dogs there, so Jester had to stay in the car, then go on a private walk with his Mom.  Fridley and Kiva had a pretty good romp, and Fridley found some nice people to hug on.  The other dogs were very nice and active, so lots of running and wrassling!

Brentwood Park in a Hailstorm
Mood:  don't ask
Topic: Dog Park Review

Today, we went out to Brentwood Park, in SE Portland.  It was the middle of a March storm, and hailing BB-sized hail, and there were no other dogs there.  That meant that Fridley's cousin Jester could romp with Fridley and Kiva, even though we all got hailed upon.  It was a short romp, but loads of fun!  Everyone was pretty wet when we got back into the car.  Brentwood Park's off-leash area is off 62nd Ave., just south of Duke Street.

Another Romp at Winema
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Dog Park Review

After breakfast, and before the Portland crew had to return to the city, we did another romp on Winema Beach. Once again, Jester was able to be off-leash for a good, long romp, because there were no other dogs or humans on the beach.  He chased a hawk - and ran into the surf, getting completely soaked.  It actually looked as if he was thinking about swimming out to continue the chase for a few moments.
